How much would this improve my game?

About how much anyhow…
Since the golf season is almost over for us Pennsylvanians i was planning on saving my extra money this winter and buying new irons (Callaway X-20 3-PW) and a new driver(Callaway FT-3). But anyhow, next spring/summer/fall i was planning on getting a membership to my home course and playing 9 holes on tuesday and thursday, as well as spending about an hour on the practice green and hitting a bag of balls on the Driving Range with my coach’s (occasional) assistance or presence, and on Saturday spend 2 hours on the Putting green and hit 2 bags of balls on the range. If you need to know or you were wondering I’m a 7 handicap right now, and I’m 14.
By the way i have another question; should I buy graphite or steel shafted irons? I currently play with steel shafts, but I was thinking about switching; would I lose any accuracy at all with my irons, are graphite shafts hard to control? i dont know i was just wondering all of this..

tar man, you have the right approach to learning the game of golf. Your scheduling(spring/summer/fall) needs to be tightened a little, but for a 14 year old you have a great outlook, especially your concentration on your short game. That’s most important. I would guess your 7 handicap will plummet the more you work on your short game. As far as the shafts in your irons, stay with with the steel shaft. The game of golf is about feel and the steel shafted iron gives you instant feedback. Graphite shafts detract from the true feel of the shot. I feel that accuracy is far better with steel shafts simply because of the repeatability of a steel shaft. Graphite just has more moving parts. I don’t now that Callaway Irons are the best. Don’t believe what sales tells you. That’s what they do for a living. Go with the club that best fits your mind’s eye. If they look awkward you’ll probably never have confidence to hit those clubs. Move on and try another club. You’ll know when you see the right club. I live in upstate NY, near Binghamton so I know what you mean about the season coming to an end.
