I need a way to find out stroke averages on various top golf holes in the world that aren’t played by the TOUR?
It’s for a senior project and I need the stroke averages for various top golf holes in the world. I can find the ones of Pga Tour. com under tournaments but is there any other cite.
I need a way to show a “formula” on how I came up with the top 18 golf holes in the world, and the only way I can think of one is by the stroke average for the hole. But then the 13th at augusta when plays under par wouldnt make the cut. Is there any idea about a “formula” to use?
here’s a different way to go about this. Go to Golf Digest’s website for their annual ranking of the top courses in the world. Reading through should give you some individual hole accounts on those great courses, or do some searches for the “signature hole” on those great courses. Or search in Golf Digest or Golf Magazine for best/worst list for golf holes and courses. Stroke average is a meaningless stat. Difficulty does not make a hole great. How about if your “formula” was data compiled from the thousands of testers that Golf Digest uses for their annual report.
Or you could start with a greatest opening hole, greatest 2nd hole and so on. Again the golf publications should have info along these lines, as I’m sure this story has been done before. For a formula you could go back to stroke avg and use the highest stroke averages on the various 1st holes, 2nd holes, etc. But that is still an imperfect measure of greatness. Your formula could be to select the 18 holes that have been most instrumental in deciding the outcome of a major championship, and then have data and stories behind them to make that case. After thinking about it, that seems the most compelling. That gives you the 13th at Augusta, the 17th at St Andrews, the 18th at Carnoustie, the 8th at Pebble, all sorts of places to go with it, and lots of great backstory.
