How do you get rid of brown stains (sweat?) on a black hat?
I’ve owned this black hat for about 1 year now and wear it during golf and tennis. After a while, it has brown stains on it. I can’t remove it with water (it only goes away temporarily). Instructions say: Hand Wash, no bleach, cool iron, do not tumble dry. It is 60% cotton, 40% polyester. BTW, it is the Andy Roddick Lacoste Hat (not a fake) – and it wasn’t cheap so please help!
I always wash my hats by hand in the shower with shampoo. I just get them wet, apply shampoo on the inside and outside, scrub it as best I can (especially on the sweat stained parts), rinse it out under the shower, and then hang it on a valve handle to dry. This helps it keep its shape. And, the shampoo is perfect for removing sweat and body oils, while still being gentle enough to not harm the fabric.
